The Buzz

Hope you had a great weekend!  Research projects for all classes will be postponed until 2nd 9 weeks.  Your blogs were excellent!  Writing was good and many of you hit on some great topics for web and newsletter articles for the Web and Epub classes.  You are writing the content for your website (Web class) and your newsletters (EPublishing).  If you have not established your blog, let’s get it rolling.  I will be looking for full week’s worth of meaty web/newsletter worthy articles by this Friday.

Video of the band and the football game against Upper Arlington last Friday is in the secure Web folder on the G-drive.  Import this video into MovieMaker for your project this week.  Some of the files have great audio that you can strip and insert into your movie.  Keep writing, sift through photos, finish slideshows, create videos and get ready to put it all together next week!

Nifty Web Apps

Check out Break in the Road and make your own street music online.  You may not be able to open this at school.  Try it out at home.

Stay Tuned …

All,

Last Friday BHS held their 1st pep rally.  RA! RA! RA! Another COUGAR  success!  The following students deserve a big THANK YOU! for teaching & learning how to use the new camera and for grabbing photos & video during the pep rally:  Destini, Jamie, Kara, Lolita, & Michael.  Stay tuned for another great slide show posted to our new Beechcroft eCougar website.  Thank you to Destini for shooting the football game.

If you visit the site, you’ll notice that this is quite a bit different than our student-designed site last year.  This is the district’s new website for all CCS schools.  It is a database-driven, template site.  It is much easier to maintain and manage and therefore may encourage all schools to keep their sites current for parents and community.

The Beechcroft web class will update the site through articles and media to give everyone the flavor of our school culture.  We will do so by writing articles and creating media such as photo slideshows, videos, and podcasts.  We will also create a wiki and explore the use of voicethreads and blogs as visual and auditory communication tools for our class and school.  To learn more about the tools we’ll be using, check out the links on this blog.

Explore and enjoy!

Ready to Rock ‘n Roll?

Students,

I’ve posted links to help you with your 1st 9-weeks research project.  Epublishing will research the history of desktop publishing/graphic design and web students will research the history of the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW — dubya, dubya, dubya!).  PC Applications classes will research the history of computers but their research projects will not be due until 2nd 9 weeks.

Each week Epublishing and Web students will have time during warmups to check out these links and post info in their blogs.  Each Friday students will print their blogs.

Have fun with this research!

Hola! fellow eCougars

All,

Welcome to PC Applications, EPublishing, and Web at Beechcroft High School, home of the eCougars (those of us that LOVE technology).   Last year’s web class developed an EXCELLENT website, the first student-created BHS website; epublishing (yearbook) class taught by Mrs. Hatfield, the art teacher, and Ms. G.,  created a stellar yearbook;  and PC Applications created the BEST MAZE games of any class!

This blog is to model the use of a blog for my students as well as to provide helpful links and information, and to use digital tools to communicate with you about class and school.  I believe high school students, YOU,  are talented, creative, and technology literate.  It’s my job to provide you with  meaningful learning experiences that help you apply and grow your technology literacy.  I will engage you in research and study of the  history of technology, techology careers, and current trends in technology in order to broaden your knowledge of the field.   My courses will provide you with opportunities to tap into your savvy as “digital natives” to create real-world products, to communicate via print and electronic media, and to become skillful in working in a collaborative environment — lifelong skills.

I’m looking forward to another year at BHS with you!

Go eCougars!

Ms. G.
